Small Race Previews: Cherry Festival 5k (The Dalles) and TJHS Splash n Dash (Tillamook)

38th Annual Cherry Festival!

The Northwest Cherry Festival in The Dalles is a weekend (April 21-23, 2017) long party that includes all sorts of activities – from parades to car shows, and petting zoos to carnivals. Add in cherry sampling AND a race, and you have all the makings of a great time. The festival includes a 10k, 5k, and 3k on Saturday morning, which have historically been held on paved country roads. While a course map isn’t available, rumor has it that all the events start with challenging uphill start and a downhill finish.

The 5k and 3k are out-and-back, and the 10k does a loop with rolling uphills the first half and mostly downhill to the finish. Expect to see quiet country roads, lined by orchards, along the way. Proceeds from this event benefits The Dalles High School Cross Country Teams.

Splash N Dash

Did you know that Tillamook Jr. High School is home to Bud’s Community Fitness Trail, a trail where students and members of the community can run or walk, in an effort to improve the fitness of the entire community? Neither did I – but I want to check it out! And I (or anyone else for that matter) will have an opportunity at the 2017 TJHS Splash N Dash, 10k and 5k that take place there on Saturday, April 22nd.

While the event has been around for a few years, this is the first year that the event will be held at the Junior high school, which will make it much more walker and stroller friendly – as well as showcase the trail a little bit. The race will be timed by Scovel Racing and proceeds of the event go toward the improvement and maintenance of Bud’s Community Fitness Trail.
