Beaver Freezer Starts the Triathlon Season on April 1st in Corvallis

Looking for an event to jump start your triathlon season? Check out the Beaver Freezer Sprint Triathlon in Corvallis on Saturday, April 1st. This community event has helped support the OSU Triathlon Club for over 20 years and welcomes all levels of multi-sport enthusiasts, from newbies to seasoned triathletes. Still early in the season, the Beaver Freezer uses an indoor pool for the swim portion of the triathlon and if swimming isn’t your thing, they also offer a duathlon. With road bike, mountain bike and relay categories, there really is a little bit of something for everyone with this Oregon State tradition. You must be 16 years old to participate, but besides that everyone is welcome.

The Beaver Freezer sells out every year, but make sure to sign up for the waiting list. They generally have 20-30 spots open up, so it’s worth a try. The triathlon costs $62 for an individual, $94 for a 2-person team and $129 for a 3-person team. The duathlon costs $62 for an individual and $94 for a 2-person team. Day of registration will not be available for the triathlon, however, you can register for the duathlon on race morning, if spots are available. Day of registration will be $67 for an individual and $100 for a 2-person team. Shirts are available for purchase, but are not guaranteed unless you registered before March 1st.

The triathlon includes a 500yard swim in one of the two pools on the Oregon State University campus with 10 waves beginning promptly at 7:30am. From the swim, participants transition at the Dixon parking lot on 26th street. The 12 miles bike portion includes some gentle hills through the historic college district and along country roads. The 3.1 mile run includes 3 loops through the heart of the OSU campus.

Well organized and easy for spectators to come cheer, it’s easy to see why this event sells out every year. If you want to guarantee a spot for next year’s event, sign up to volunteer. All volunteers are offered advanced registration for next year, so you won’t miss out. With the convenience of a pool swim, a beautiful bike ride in the country, followed with a fast run, the Beaver Freezer is a perfect event to get the triathlon season started.
