Small Race Preview: 2017 Where to Start K9k/5k (Stayton)

One rainy April Fools Day I participated in a small race in Stayton, put on by local fitness center, Where to Start.  It was their inaugural event, and despite the small number of runners, they were as committed to fitness and also to Where to Start as I had seen.  Since that time, Where to Start Fitness continues to be going strong in helping small towns east of Salem achieve their fitness needs. Their main race has turned into the Where to Start Stayton K9 Run, a 9k and 5k event that helps raise money for the Stayton Police Department’s K9 fund.

The 9k is about half road and half trail, while the 5k is primarily on trails – and both distances will navigate Pioneer Park, which sidles up to the Santiam River. Over 100 people participated last year, and (well-behaved) dogs are available to run – along with strollers. There will also be dogs available for adoption from local shelters.

Follow the event on Facebook.
