Time to get your “fat @$$” out of bed and up a mountain for the 14th Annual Capitol Peak Mega Fat Ass just up the freeway in Olympia. For all of you mega-fans of saving money, this is the race for you – as it’s only $10! Now, why is it only $10 and why is it called Mega Fat Ass?
Why Mega I don’t know but in case you don’t know what a “Fat Ass” race is, I will tell you. A “Fat Ass” race is described as “a series of low-key runs that are frequented by experienced runners & walkers and characterised by the phrase “No Fees, No Awards, No Aid, No Wimps”. The runs totally free to enter and are put on by passionate runners who are also running.”
Now, this race isn’t free, but the $10 for the registration is for a fundraiser for the Friends of Capitol Forest. The organizers also donate to the South Sound Mobile Search and Rescue, so you know your race fee is going to a good cause! They will also be taking additional donations on race-day.
There is one other additional expense if you don’t already have it – a Discover Pass to park in the Fall Creek area. You can buy an annual pass for $30 and a day pass for $10, and it is recommended that you carpool. Check out where to buy Discover Passes here.
There are two different distances for this race, a 17 miler and a 34 miler. There will be no aid stations, but with the exception of water. The 17 miler and the 34 miler are both on the same course route and the 34 miler is the same route twice. Be prepared for wet and muddy conditions but NO WHINING, according to the race organizers Olytrailrunners.
This race is being held in The Pacific Northwest winter so it will likely be cold, but don’t worry because there will be warm soup for you at the finish (only if you bring it though). Plan to toss in a box of butternut squash soup or a can of chicken noodle soup and they will throw it in the pot and heat is up for you so you can warm your fat @$$ up!
