Coach Jim’s free group long run: Saturday, November 19, 2016 photo of the University of Portland's main gate. photo of the University of Portland’s main gate.

Even though the planned route for this weekend is 10 miles, those of you that want to run less will be able to join in easily as the course is an out-and-back. This is a beautiful route which starts at Grand Central Bakery at 714 N. Fremont (note it’s N, not NE) and runs through beautiful neighborhoods and past the University of Portland before turning back.

This weekend’s run is Saturday, November 19 and will start promptly at 8a, so please arrive by 7:45 to get organized into pace groups and take care of any other business. While there may be parking in Grand Central’s parking lot, Coach Jim kindly asks his runners to instead find neighborhood parking so that the bakery’s regular customers can easily park.

You can check out this weeks’ route by clicking here.

These runs are coordinated by RRCA-certified and Lydiard program-certified Coach James Mattern. He and his pace group leaders are all volunteering their time and experience. Paces will range from about 7:30/mile to 12:30/mile and this welcoming group is extremely supportive whether you are training for your first half or full marathon or trying to better your time or earn a BQ. Get to know them on Coach Jim’s facebook group here!

About Kelly Barten (1152 Articles)
I started the Run Oregon blog in February 2007, because I felt like running in Oregon and SW Washington deserved more positive coverage. I also wanted to level the playing field so that small, non-profit races could compete with big events; and to support LOCAL race organizers. I'm a Creighton Bluejay (undergrad) and an Oregon Duck (Sports Marketing MBA), and I live in Tigard with my husband and two kids. My "real job" is working for an incredibly awesome math textbook company doing marketing and production.
