Bring: Your ID if you plan on getting a beer
Park: On surface streets; or take the streetcar!
This is a fun run and walk, which starts when Fleet Feet PDX team members bring out the big maps showing that month’s checkpoints. You get to as many as you want to or can (not always the same thing) and back to the start area by 7p, where you turn in your raffle tickets and then see if you win any awesome prizes! This early in the year it will get dark on you during the end part of the run – well, dark enough that you need to be safe and seen with reflectives and a headlamp. You’ll also want a sweatshirt and pants for the raffle, as the temperature drops pretty quickly when the sun goes down. My trick was always to plan my return route so that it passed by my car where I could grab warm gear before the raffle!
This is NOT a race, and aside from the event site, no roads are closed, so run on sidewalks and obey all traffic signals. Use good judgment and remember that many drivers only care about getting home and aren’t expecting swarms of runners to surround their vehicle. And take a moment to thank the sponsor stores (usually the checkpoints) for their support!
There is one more First Thursday Urban Adventure Run scheduled for this year, on September 1.
