‘After battling asthma most all her life, Sarah discovered that eliminating inflammatory foods like gluten, dairy, soy, and processed sugars freed her from medication. And so Squarebar was born to support her restricted diet while maintaining an active lifestyle. It’s been more than five years since her last asthma attack, and she no longer keeps an inhaler in the house.

Square launched March 2012 at Natural Products Expo West and is now nationally distributed….. growth built on a belief that Ingredients are what Matter Most. This starts with sourcing only the most nutrient-dense organic and non-gmo foods, and striving to work directly with farmers whenever possible to ensure an ethical supply chain from crop to bar.’

Impressions:

One day in a hurry I grabbed a Squarebar at a New Seasons out of convenience. I was quickly approaching that ‘hangry’ state and needed to get something in me to tide me over until dinner. There are always so many bars to choose from and a decent portion of them taste chalky, have filler ingredients and are really just glorified candy bars, which can make the decision difficult. I grabbed the chocolate coated cherry bar because it had 12 grams of protein, it sounded tasty and my family didn’t deserve a cranky, hungry mom. One bite and I was hooked.

Squarebars was kind enough to send a sample packet so I could test all the flavors and these organic protein bars are so good that I can honestly say I don’t have just one favorite. They are all delicious and a perfect post-run snack. Flavors include chocolate coated coconut, chocolate coated spice, chocolate coated cherry, chocolate coated crunch and chocolate coated peanut butter. I wasted no time going through all of the flavors except the spice bar, which sat on my counter for a few days. I finally decided I had to test it out and had no trouble finishing it. I was concerned the spiciness would be overwhelming, but it wasn’t at all. There’s a reason your mom always told you to just try one bite, often that’s all it takes to discover you like something.

I’m not exaggerating when I say the chocolate coated peanut butter bar tasted like a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup ™; I savored every single bite. The peanut butter and coconut were definitely my favorites, but all of these bars tasted like a treat and I didn’t feel guilty eating them. The sugar is on the higher side, but it’s a much better option for me than to drive through a fast food place or starve and overeat when I finally get food. These are great to have on hand, just keep in mind they will melt if they get too warm. I can attest that they taste just as good in a gooey, melted  state, but I’m relieved no one witnessed it.

I’m not only in love with these bars, I’m in love with this company. Square Organics makes a quarterly donation based on profits to Not for Sale, an organization working to end human trafficking. So you can feel good about these bars for your body and their efforts to fight human trafficking around the globe. You can grab a Squarebar at New Seasons or Whole Foods or order them online. They offer free shipping to anywhere in the United States and their website has pages of recipes that I can’t wait to try. Square Organics is offering 20% off so our readers get to try a box of bars for only $23.99. Use the code ‘runoregon’ and try a box or two. The code is unlimited and you can pass along to friends and family. You never know what you’ll find along the aisles of the grocery store and I’m so glad I discovered these bars. They’re a quick fix for that ‘hangry’ feeling that I can feel pretty good about and, best of all, they taste like a splurge.
