Small Race Preview: 2016 Wilsonville Kiwanis 5k

Every year in July, Wilsonville Kiwanis hosts the Kids Fun Run, a free event for children from preschool age to 8th grade. For the first time this year, the morning will start with a 5k for the older kids and adults. The funds raised by the run support children in the community by partnering with the Wilsonville Library, and elementary, middle and high schools.

The 5k will start at 8am with its start/finish line on the Wood Middle School running track. The course will be mostly on paved sidewalks and trails on the school property and through Metro’s Graham’s Oak Nature Preserve. Participants receive a tech shirt that matches the kids run shirts, as well as a finisher’s medal.

Opening ceremonies for the kids run start at 9am, so if you have kids, bring them along and sign them up for the kids run. The running distance depends on your child’s age, and the schedule is posted on the event website. While kids are waiting for their turn to run, there are many activities, such as a climbing wall, lawn games, vendor booths, and a BBQ lunch. Entry to the kids run is free, but donations to Kiwanis are encouraged.
