If running is not enough for you, then perhaps you need to check out one of the combination races. But what if you can't decide if you want to include swimming, or you aren't sure what distances you want? Why Racing Events' MidSummer Triathlon & Duathlon - now in its 32d year - is bound to have an event for you on July 31, 2016.
Don't like swimming? Sign up for the duathlon, which is a run-bike-run event. Want the full experience? Sign up for the triathlon, which is a swim-bike-run event. Don't like running? (What are you doing on this site???) Sign up for the aquabike, which is a swim-bike event.
Once you settle on the type of event, you still have to pick a distance. This race offers Sprint (1/2 mile swim, 12.5 mile bike ride, 5K run) or Olympic (1.5K swim, 40K bike ride, 10K run) for any of the three events, or a special Novice Try-It for the triathlon, which uses the Sprint distances except that the swim is 1/4 mile.
There will be awards for overall top 3 open and overall masters winners, as well as recognition for the top 3 in each age/gender group, and Clydesdale (males 220+ lbs) and Athena (females 160+ lbs) divisions. Race goodies include: "island-style commemorative tech shirt & cool finisher medal, ChampionChip Timing, awards and prizes, beer (for those 21 and older), food, and music."
This is a USTA sanctioned event.
According to the organizer’s website, the swimming events will take place in a triangular counter-clockwise direction in the lake. The bike ride takes place on Marine Drive. The running events take place in Blue Lake Park.
Note that there is a $5 parking fee for the event itself.
