The Southern Oregon Runners will be putting on the 15th annual Britt Woods Firehouse Run which will take place Saturday, July 9 in Jacksonville, Oregon. The always unique event makes use of two loops in the beautiful Britt Woods area, and allows runners to choose to run either of the loops individually as “exhibition” runs (no official times or results), or opt for the 10k and run both loops for a shot at earning trophies, ribbons and prize money for the top three overall finishers.The short loop is 1.9 miles, while the longer loop is 4.3 miles. The event will also include a 100 yard fun run for kids.
The thing that sets this race apart from others in terms of uniqueness is the age and gender handicapping and staggered start.What this means is that each entrant in the 10k (long+short loop) run receives a head start based on age and sex, as indicated by the chart listed on the 2015 entry form here: HEAD START CHART. (The 2016 entry form unavailable at this time). An example of how the head start chart works: 9-year-old girls, 58-year-old women, and 68-year-old men all get a 19-minute head start over 19- to 30-year-old men. Meanwhile, 19- to 39-year-old women, 11-year-old boys, and 54- and 55-year-old men get an 8-minute head start, and so on.
The event is set to kick off at 7am, with the schedule of events as follows:
7am: 1.9 miles (short loop) – Exhibition Run
7am: 4.3 miles (long loop) – Exhibition Run
7:30am: Kids 100 Yard Fun Run
8am: 10k Race
The course will end and start at the upper Britt Trail parking lot. 
Awards for the event are provided by Dermatology and Later Associates of Medford, LLP and include:
- Trophy to overall male and female winner
- Ribbons to first 20 finishers
- Medallions to all finishers
- Prize money: 1st overall $100; 2nd $50; 3rd $25
All events are $12.00 pre-registration (add $18 for tech shirt) through 7/6. $7 for special youth fee (18 and under) (add $15 for tech shirt) through 7/6.
