Race Preview: 2016 Grants Pass Freedom Run

An early contender for "Race Logo Of The Year"!

Holiday weekends usually offer a large selection of races to choose from, and Memorial Day weekend is no exception. Runners in Josephine County can look forward to the Grants Pass Freedom Run on Saturday, May 28th. The race offers a 5k and a 5-miler, and this year participants are encouraged to dress up as super heroes to honor our real life heroes, our soldiers and veterans. Several things make this a classic holiday event: The race starts in front of the County Courthouse. It's a point-to-point course, with views of the Rogue River, finishing at a park. And the race starts right before the Boatnik Parade, so an enthusiastic and supportive crowd is guaranteed. A shuttle will be available to return finishers to the start.

The races will be chip-timed, and awards will be presented to the top three men, women, and youth, and ribbons will go to the top three finishers in 10-year age groups. In addition, teams of 10 or more will compete for a top prize, based on the age group place of the top eight finishers from each team (see below for team registration information).

There will also be a raffle drawing, with prizes posted on a board at the finish (my favorite system!) T-shirts are guaranteed if registered by May 20th.
