Race Preview: 2016 Outpace Extinction – Race For The Redheads

Outpace Extinction – Race For The Redheads is not a benefit for Axl Rose, Nicole Kidman, Bonnie Raitt, Conan O’Brien, Shaun White, Reba McEntire, Ron Howard, Mick Hucknall, or any other ginger-haired celebrities, nor is it a campaign event for Donald Trump. I’m pretty sure none of those people need our help. The event is actually a fundraiser for an entirely different demographic group, the endangered orangutans of Sumatra.

The race is a partnership between the Portland chapter of the American Association of Zoo Keepers and the Oregon Road Runners Club, in support of the Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Programme (SOCP). The SOCP’s mission is to protect the remaining wild populations of Sumatran orangutans through habitat protection and reintroduction of captive animals to the wild.

The race takes place on Sunday, May 15th at Blue Lake Park in Fairview, and includes a 5k, 10k, and kids run. There is a $5 park fee per car, and dogs are not allowed in the park.

Sign up for this fun race for a good cause, and help save one of earth’s greatest creatures, the majestic and intelligent orangutan. Molly Ringwald, Amy Adams, and Lindsay Lohan can take care of themselves (well maybe not Lindsay Lohan, but she’ll have to organize her own race).
