The HTC Race Series Hippie Chick Half and Quarter Marathon takes place in Hillsboro on Saturday, May 7th, 2016. This women-only event is scheduled for the Saturday before Mother’s Day every year. Participants of all speeds can look forward to a great supportive race atmosphere and fun “hippie chick” costumes.
Both distances start at the same time, 8am, from Ron Tonkin Field – home of the Hillsboro Hops. There is plenty of parking at the field and the nearby Intel campus, but arrive early to allow plenty of time to make your way to the start line. The ballfield is a great place for the start/finish since it offers shelter from possible inclement weather, or from the warm sunshine after a hot race. The artificial turf won’t be muddy, and there is plenty of seating for spectators and participants to relax in.
The run takes place entirely on paved roads through the farmland outside of Hillsboro, and is mostly flat. The first 2.5 miles of the course are the same for the quarter and half. At the split between the two courses, the quarter marathon goes straight until it reaches its turnaround point, then follows the same route back to the finish. The half marathon turns left, completes a four mile loop and a two mile out-and-back before re-joining the same course as the quarter and finishing the last 2.5 miles on the same route back to Ron Tonkin Field, where finishers will be shown on the JumboTron.
After the run, stick around for music, pancake breakfast, and for participants of legal drinking age, there will be a choice of mimosas and beers to refuel. Vendors will have their tents set up, and you can look for samples of many fine products.
Online registration is open. Prices increase on May 2nd.
