From the Heart: Jenn & Ron

Ron and Jenn

“Love many things, for therein lies the true strength, and whosoever loves much performs much, and can accomplish much, and what is done in love is done well.” ~ Vincent Van Gogh

The Bend Marathon is Sunday, April 24th and I’m sure some runners are getting those pre-race butterflies. Unsettled nerves and anticipation before a marathon are normal, but those emotions are certainly amplified for Jenn and Ron, who are getting married at the marathon. The Bend Marathon has amazing views, a well supported course and the race directors are pretty awesome, so I’d say it’s pretty much an ideal venue for this couple to start their lives together. The race is perfect, but I appreciate the reminder to always follow your heart.

Jenn grew up in Orange County, California and Ron was raised in Corvallis, but a common interest pulled them together. For many of us, our social circles include running buddies and we spend a lot of time with fellow runners, but for these two it became a whole lot more. It was running that brought them together and started this whole journey. They tagged along for run with a mutual friend and that run was just the beginning. The kindred spirits were soon running together and haven’t stopped since.

Their first real date was after an event filled day, so it’s a perfect fit for them to start their next life chapter at a marathon. Jenn had completed a sprint triathlon in the morning after which they headed to Ocean Shores to support a friend at another event. They finished the day with dinner and their first official date. It didn’t take long for them to discover they had something special together.

Ron and Jenn 2

Ron has been running for about 7 years and has completed 5 marathons. Jenn has been running for about 3 years and has finished numerous half marathons and a Half-Ironman triathlon. This will be Jenn’s first marathon. They picked the Bend Marathon for the scenery and love the local breweries. After their 26.2 miles, the newlyweds will celebrate with friends and family at the Bend Brewery.

Maybe it’s the romantic in me, but I just love that running introduced these two and the mileage has brought them closer. They’ve trained together, encouraged and inspired each other and are genuinely living their dream. While not a traditional wedding by any means, these carefree spirits will certainly have a memorable wedding day. Not that they’ll have a lot of time to revel in it, since they’ll be running another marathon the following week. A week after the Bend Marathon, they’ll lace up again and run the Tacoma City Marathon and will continue the ‘honeymoon’ with Coeur d’Alene 70.3 Triathlon in June.

Ron and Jenn 3

I think it’s so great that Jenn and Ron found each other through running, but their story inspires me for so much more than that. They are living every day to the fullest, with passion and a zeal for life. Not conforming to old -fashioned standards, Jenn and Ron are doing what they love and strengthening their bond with every mile. Training together and having a blast at the same time, these two have definitely found love. They challenge each other and inspire one another and that has my admiration. Like every couple, they have some pre-wedding nerves, but at least they have 26.2 miles to shake them off. If you’re in the Bend area this weekend, go check out the marathon. Jenn and Ron will be hard to miss. She’ll be running in a ‘wedding dress’ and Ron will be sporting a running tuxedo. Good luck to everyone running the Bend Marathon and Half Marathon this weekend and best wishes to Jenn and Ron. Always follow your heart.
