Eugene area runners! Let’s recognize National Crime Victim’s Rights Week by participating in a 5K run or walk, Victim’s Voices 5K, presented by Lane County Victim Advocates from Youth Services and the District Attorney’s Office. This is a free event!
I’ll be out there supporting the race, my friends, coworkers, neighbors and all community members who have been affected by crime on Sunday, April 10, 2016. The event takes place at Alton Baker Park, near the pavilions, where the common start/finish line is. The lovely 5K course will take participants out Day Island Road, past the boat launch, across the Autzen and DeFazio Footbridges, passing by the duck pond, and arriving at the finish line.
You should strongly consider registering the entire family – this is a very family friendly event, and the cause is amazing. The 2016 Victim’s Voices 5K awareness about is all about raising awareness to the community regarding the impact of crime on victims. “As Joye E. Frost, Director, Office for Victims of Crime (OVC), U.S. Department of Justice, says, “When we take the time to focus on the victim in the aftermath of crime—to address their needs for safety and justice—we can begin to build trust and restore the hope of those victims and their communities. We all play a role in helping victims as they rebuild their lives.”
Let’s band together as a community and get out there to show we care! Our participation shows our community that we support crime victims, and that we care. Register by March 23 for a free shirt. Online registration closes April 9th. No race day registration available, register in advance.
