Small Race Preview: 2016 Salmon Run (Bend)
Each year, the mighty Salmon make an expedition of a lifetime back to their homes – traversing thousands of miles and overcoming countless obstacles on their river journeys. The Salmon juxtapose the infinite space of their ocean homes against the micro-streams of their birth in one monumental run. Their achievement is awesome in the true sense of the word.
The course will actually travel along the Deschutes River, much like the salmon do. Click here for course maps. The half will head SW on some great paths (some of blogger Matt’s favorite routes), before returning to the start. The 10k is new this year, but doesn’t lose out on some beautiful Deschutes views.
Strollers are allowed in the 5k only, due to some narrow trails. Following the race Bethlyn’s Global Fusion will be providing post race food and beer by Craft Kitchen and Brewery. Each finisher will also receive a seed packet – a cool and unique post-race reward.
The Salmon Run Half is also part of the Oregon Half & Full Marathon Series, for you half marathon warriors out there. And while it might not be exceptionally warm for this race, April tends to be sunny around here, which makes this race all the more beautiful as it follows the river.
