Small Race Preview: 2016 Superhero 5K & 10K Fun Run (Odell)

Most races that we preview have some sort of charity attached to them and we think that's amazing. The Superhero 5K & 10K Fun Run is an event where your dollars will have an immediate impact on someone in need. In the small town of Odell (south of Hood River), there is an elementary student at the local school. He was a healthy and happy child who loved playing soccer and had participated in track camps. This past November, he was infected by a rare virus and ended up hospitalized for several months. Now, he is partially paralyzed and is in an electric wheelchair. As he gets stronger, he is ready to have more independence than his current wheelchair can accomodate. The director of this race states that the boy's family has been very private through this journey, but would love to allow him the freedom of pushing himself around in an ultralight wheelchair, which retails around $6000. That's when some people at the school stepped in and created this event.

The 5k route is an out and back, and the 10k is a loop, both taking place on rolling rural roads. Both distances will offer great views of Mt. Adams, as well as some beautiful orchards within the valley.

I know that most of us have likely not ran in Odell before (or even knew it existed), so this is the perfect opportunity to combine racing in a new location with helping a child in need. You know you want to.
