Small Race Preview: 2016 FireWalker 10k and 5k (Gates)

If you blink, you may pass right through the city of Gates without even realizing it. The fire department in this small town, located 35 miles east of Salem on Highway 22, is hosting an inaugural event – the FireWalker Fitness Challenge. The race course is an out and back 10K and 5K walk or run that will take off from the Old Gates Elementary School Campus, and take runners up logging roads, hills, and through the dense forests surrounding this old logging town.

The race will be timed by stopwatch, but there will be awards for age categories.  We will time with a stopwatch system and have age categories for men and women, walkers and runners.  The race starts at 10am and will be followed by awards. There is also a Little Chiefs Race – a free is free to children 12 and under. All entrants will receive prizes. Parents or guardians will be required to sign a waiver for each child to participate.
