Mardi Gras occurs this year officially on February 9, but why not celebrate it TWICE? Why twice? Because on Sunday, February 21, the fantastic team at Eclectic Edge Racing will present the Mardi Gras 5K run and walk. There will be Mardi Gras themed excitement occurring at the event, as well!
The chip timed 5K race will begin at 3 p.m., so you will have time to get your Sunday morning activities completed and out of the way. I am becoming a fan of events that take place at ‘unique’ times, and not the usual 7 a.m. or 8 a.m. start times. Oregon Wine Lab will be the start/finish line for the 5K, and will be the location of the post-race festivities. Post race refreshments will be provided thanks to Eclectic Edge Racing, and Da Nang Vietnamese Eatery will be on site providing delicious post-race food that is available for purchase. (Side Note: I have heard nothing be stellar things about Da Nang … I’m bringing some cash to try it out while I’m sipping some wine at Oregon Wine Lab after the event.)
The course will be well marked and include an aid station at the turn around point, which is at the 1.55 mile point. You will zip up Lincoln Street to run up to Skinner Butte Loop, then zing down the back side to make your way into Skinner Butte Park. The turn around will be Maurie Jacobs Park.
Awards will be presented to the top overall male and female finishers, as well as the top three finishers in each age group. Make sure to stick around after the race for all the excitement! Wine will be available for purchase for those 21+, and minors will be allowed inside Oregon Wine Lab for the event, however, they may not sit at the bar.
