Race Preview: 2016 Valentines Heart & Sole Fun Run

Looking for a destination race this Valentines Day Weekend, complete with supporting a good cause? Then check out the Valentine's Heart and Sole Run 10K and 5k on Saturday, January 13. This 2nd annual race is put on by Canyonville Christian Academy's senior class.  In doing some research, it appears that the school has students from 17 Nations and 5 continents (14% from North America, 21% from the African continent, 20% from the People's Republic of China, 11% from Latin America, 6% from Europe, 4% from Hong Kong, 6% Taiwan, and 8% from Southeast Asia). What a diverse group of students!

The 10k course can be viewed here. It will be a right angle out-and-back, complete with running on Canyonville’s Main Street, passing the Seven Feathers Casino Resort, and a beautiful stretch on Gazely Road, which parallels the South Umpqua River. Expect quiet country road running with some hills mixed in. The 5k follows the same route, but turns around shortly after hitting Gazely Road. There will be 2 aid stations on the 10k and 1 on the 5k.

Finishers will receive medals and afterwards, there will be a photo booth and refreshments. All races are chipped timed.

Canyonville is probably most well-known for Seven Feathers Casino Resort. This makes a destination race for the Valentine’s weekend a legitimate possibility and offers up stuff for the whole family, even outside of running. It is also a short drive from the Wildlife Safari Game Park and numerous vineyards. From gambling to buffets, and shows to concerts, there is plenty to do within a 20 mile radius of Canyonville to allow you to make the most of your trip.

Follow the event on Facebook here and get to planning your running weekend.
