This Saturday's run starts on the "Crystal Springs" loop, which sounds pretty ... and it is. The run is split into two routes, a four-mile loop and a six-mile out-and-back, so it's a great run for those of you who want to try out a Coach Jim run but aren't at the mileage to do a 10-mile run yet. Coach Jim's crew is friendly, supportive, and would love to meet you. I promise.
When: Saturday, November 28, 2015
What time: The run starts at 8a. Please arrive at least 10 minutes early so the run can start on time.
Where: Pizza Roma at 4715 SE Woodstock Blvd. in Portland (a pizza place owned by a runner!)
How far & how fast: The total distance is 10 miles. Click on the links above to see the routes. Experienced pace group leaders will help keep you on pace and prevent you from getting lost. Exact paces will vary but there are usually groups training for a 3:30 - 5:00 marathon finish time.
The Crystal Springs loop runs through neighborhoods of beautiful old homes, around Reed College, and under massive trees. The out-and-back heads north to start, cutting east so that the turnaround is at Mt. Tabor Park.
These are not supported runs in that there are not aid stations set up on the route. (Supportive, yes; supported, no.) Please be prepared with hydration and nutrition, dress for the weather, and be sure to bring a set of dry clothes to put on after the run. Also keep in mind that if you are wearing a waterproof coat, you may sweat more than usual (the sauna effect) and need to drink more fluids than you may think based on the temperature.
