Is it just me, or are evening races suddenly becoming a “thing”? There have always been a few perennial PM races around, but they really seem to be taking off over the past year or so. The latest evening event to hit the race calendar is Terrapin Events’ Sunset On The Springwater, set for August 15th at Sellwood Riverfront Park in SE Portland.
The event features a half marathon, a 10k, and a 5k, and each race follows an out-and-back course through neighborhood streets and along the Springwater Corridor paved path. In addition to the races themselves, Sunset On The Springwater promises fun for everyone at the park, including a post-race barbecue, a beer garden with mimosas and wine, live music, and kickball!
Race entries include a tech shirt and a finisher’s medal for the half marathon (medals can be purchased for the 10k and 5k). All races will be chip timed, and there will be aid stations every two miles.
Sunset On The Springwater bills itself as “A rare Saturday evening run”, and while that may be pushing it a bit (there are at least two other races in the area that same evening), it is a nice alternative (or for some of us, addition) to the traditional morning events.
