Nothing beats a summertime run followed by a cool glass of beer. I find that a cool and refreshing taste of an IPA really hits the spot. The Hubbard Hopfest Run features a 10k and 5k that celebrate the best been ingredient (in my opinion)- the hop!
The Hubbard Hop Festival started in 1973 and is an annual event sponsored by the Hubbard Volunteer Fire Association and, in addition, supports the North Marion School District and surrounding community. The fun runs have been coinciding with the festival over the past few years and has brough more people into this small little town of 99E.
The routes appear to have stayed the same since the beginning. The 10k route is a large rectangular loop on the shoulder of some paved backcountry roads. I guess I wouldn’t necessarily call Boones Ferry Road “backcountry”, but the 2+ mile straightaway was flat and the cars that passed by when I ran it (2011) were very courteous. Expect a fair-sized down and up between miles 2 and 3, but otherwise a pretty level course. The 5k starts out the same, but cuts off much earlier to get to Boones Ferry Road before finishing up the same as the 10k.
Following the race, there will be beer of course, as well as a parade, kid’s activities, and food options. Like the festival on Facebook to keep up to date.
