Race Preview: 2015 Foot Traffic Flat 5K

New this year to the 2015 Foot Traffic Flat are the 5K and 8K "off road farm course" and I can't wait to check it out!  The finishers for this event will receive a medal (one for the 5K and 8K with those distances printed on it and a green and brown ribbon and a 13.1/26.2 distance medal with red ribbon). Course map descriptions state that the 5K and 8K (formerly described as a 10K?) will be an out and back course on pavement through the scenic pumpkin patch and living up to the Fourth of July racing tradition, it will be flat without even so much as a meandering hill.

The area is known for it’s beautiful views, quiet farmland and chance to see wild life and for the fresh produce available.  This time of year, farm fresh strawberries are in season and will be enjoyed in the form of strawberry shortcake for all the participants.  Refreshments are said to be available at the post race festivities as well as hot dogs and veggie dogs, compliments of The Pumpkin Patch.

Word on the street is, to avoid traffic congestion and issues with locating parking, take the shuttle bus.  The shuttle will be limited for the first 500 people to buy a ticket in advance, so hurry so you aren’t left behind!  Or, at least, stuck in a traffic jam and then looking for a parking place on top of pre race jitters.  The first shuttle will leave at 5:00 am to arrive at the start line by 5:40 am and the second shuttle option leaves at 5:45 am for an estimated arrival of 6:25 am.  Shuttles are available for departure and are scheduled to leave  at 10 am for the first departure and then departing as they fill up until the final departure scheduled for 11:45 am.  Additional tickets are available for spectators to purchase as well and do not need to be purchased at the same time as a race registration.  Simply visit the race registration site and select a shuttle ticket.

Several options are available for packet pickup for ease and convenience and everyone is strongly encouraged to make one of these dates to avoid further lines and congestion on race day.  These packet pickup times and locations include:
Sunday, June 28th at the NEW Foot Traffic West location (13306 NW Cornell Rd) 12-4 pm
Wednesday, July 1st at Foot Traffic Downtown (333 SW Taylor St)  12-7 pm
Thursday, July 2nd at Foot Traffic Northeast (4020 NE Fremont St) 12-7 pm
Friday, July 3rd at Foot Traffic Sellwood (7718 SE 13th ave) 12-6 pm

Race Day Schedule:
5:30 am- Race day packet pickup begins
6:30 am- Full Marathon begins
6:50 am- Half marathon begins
7:45 am- 5K and 8K starts HOWEVER the start times for these distances may be subject to change.  I, for one, will be arriving early to ensure I’m there when it does start “just in case”.

Bag check is available.  Please bring a bag to minimize waste.

I can’t wait to check out this event and hope to see you out there!

About Robin York (146 Articles)
Robin grew up as a couch potato and did everything she could to get out of exercise, until one day a good friend would not stop talking about this fun 5k race she was doing. Finally Robin got off the couch and trained for this "fun" race using C25K (couch to 5k program). After crossing that first finish line, she kept going and became a "runner". After losing 80 lbs, gaining health, a love of being active and setting a healthy example for her husband and kids, she thinks she'll stick with this whole "running thing".
