Chug a beer, run a mile, and then chug another beer
…At nine a.m.
…On a Sunday.
It’s the First Annual Ecliptic Beer Mile, and it’s been named one of the “12 Things You Have To Do in Portland This Spring” by Thrillist. While it sounds like some sort of frat boy ritual, or maybe some spoof featured on an episode of Portlandia, this is actually going to be a REAL event! It was only a matter of time before drinking beer and running as an event actually became a thing that otherwise normal people would consider doing. While it sounds comical, will have many of the trappings of a true running event: chip timing, event t-shirts, prizes for the overall and age division winners. Ecliptic is turning up the fun by adding some pre- and post-race beer, an after-party featuring live music, and post-race snacks!
The course is entirely along N. Mississippi Avenue, starting and ending at Ecliptic Brewing. Due to city regulations, this will not be a traditional beer mile (with beer every 1/4mi). As beer is not allowed on the course (Portland’s public roads), beer will be consumed just prior to the start and just after the finish.
This lighthearted event is also making an effort to give back to the community by encouraging participants to bring donations of non-perishable foods to the event, or by fundraising online, for the Oregon Food Bank.
