Matt & Marilyn’s 2017 Guide to Running and Drinking

cinco de mayo race runner-wearing-sombrero-and-holding-beerWhen it comes to Run Oregon bloggers who enjoy their beer, we have a wide variety of partakers. But clearly the two most indulgent are Matt Rasmussen and Marilyn Tycer. They typically live on Untappd and have, more than once, ran into each other in beer lines at races and at brewfests around the Northwest. Oregon and Washington are craft and microbrewery royalty, and these two surely are getting their fill. For reference sake, Marilyn has sampled over 2100 unique beers and Matt has now been to over 240 breweries. That’s some dedication right there.

First, some simple background on us:

Beer of Choice:
Matt – IPA (though 2017 is shaping up to be the year of Sour Ales and Pilsners)
Marilyn – Imperial Stout

Favorite Oregon Beers
Matt –

  • Half Hitch from Crux (Bend)
  • Gloria! Pilsner from Block 15 (Corvallis)

Marilyn –

  • Widely available: Cavatica Stout from Fort George (Astoria)
  • Off the beaten path: Cherry Chocoholic from Rusty Truck Brewing (Lincoln City).
  • Specialty/limited release beers: 2011 Abyss or Black Butte XXV, both from Deschutes Brewery (Bend), or Big Ass Barrel Lapsang Souchon Tea Porter from Rogue Ales.

Favorite Non-Oregon Beer
Matt –

  • Flamingose from Uinta Brewing (SLC, UT),
  • Crackberry Cider from Bishop Cider Co. (Dallas, TX)

Favorite Brewfest
Matt – Oregon Garden Brewfest in Silverton (June)
Marilyn- Killer Pumpkin Festival in Portland (October)

Matt and Marilyn have got together and highlighted some great races and running events around the area that showcase or highlight beer. Many professional race companies and races offer a post-race beer or two from a local brewery (i.e. Run Wild Adventures and Seven Brides Brewing, Shamrock Run and Widmer, Bend Marathon and 10 Barrel, etc), so we aren’t listing all of those here. Following is our list of our more specific libation-related events:
