I love Halloween and obviously kind of enjoy running too, so I get especially excited with the fall themed races this time of year. Run2Survive is one that will definitely give you an adrenaline rush. Register as a Survivor and you have a 5 minute head start with two lifelines. Think flag football: you have two flags attached to your belt and you only stay ‘alive’ if you keep at least one of those flags to the finish line.
Survivors are encouraged to work together to get through the course, just trying to get to the finish line alive. Zombies can choose between stationary Zombies along the course, or start 5 minutes after the Survivors and chase down the living. Zombies are trying to collect as many flags as they can and Survivors are racing to the finish line trying to keep their flags intact. Survivors and Zombies must be 12 years old to participate.
Even if you get picked off by a Zombie, a portion of the proceeds benefit the Evergreen School District Foundation. Plus, there will be something for all ages. Held at Blue Lake Park (20500 NE Marine Drive in Fairview) on Saturday, October 18th the event schedule includes:
- Zombie registration opens 9:30 AM
- Survivor registration opens 10 AM
- Kids Zone opens 10 AM
- 5k Run 11 AM
- Zombie Chase 11:05 AM
- Little Zombie Run 11:45 AM
- Zombie Fest 11 AM-3PM
Celebrate your run at the finish line with the Zombie Fest, where those 21 and over can enjoy some Kraken Rum, Cuervo Cinge Tequila or a brew. Snap a selfie with a zombie, monster or other creatures roaming about. Entrance to the Zombie Fest is included with registration as well as one beverage. Also included with registration is a technical Run2Survive shirt, a medal for Survivors and a dog tag medal for Zombies. This event will be chip timed.
There are three ways to register, mail it in, head to a Fit Right NW store or online. Choose a Survivor for $50 or run as a Zombie for $40. Mail in registration must be postmarked by October 1st. You can also register at either of the Fit Right NW stores in Portland and Vancouver through October 13th. Online registration will also be available until 5 PM on October 13th. Finally, there will be registration the day of the event for an additional $10.
There will still be fun for the younger ones too, after the Zombie Run. At 11:45 AM there will be a Little Zombie Run. Register early for the best deal, ages 3-6 are $7 and ages 7-12 are $10. Kids will receive a t-shirt, medal and goodie bag. This event is capped at 250 kids. Day of registration for ages 3-12 will be $15.
The costumes are always amazing and the participants are always fun. These runs have a good mix of competitive runners and the not so competitive,some who love to dress up and others who don’t. Everyone brings a fun and unique element to the event. Start a new fall tradition, make it a date your significant other will never forget or just run to earn the beer. Run2Survive and the Zombie Fest are sure to be fun for the whole family.
