At the start of the race, both 5k and 10k runners will run together on a double track trail, just up the hill from the Hardy Creek Trail Head. Around this time, both routes will change from that double track to a single track. Didn’t they promise hills? Ah yes, and this is roughly where you’ll start to come face to face with some of those “monster” hills! Keep your eyes peeled on those hills though, as local folklore and Animal Planet’s “Finding Bigfoot” has placed Bigfoot sightings in the region. Race directors state they have swept the track well for any Bigfoot’s (Bigfeets?) and relocated them for your running enjoyment. There’s no cellphone service in the area, so if you DO spot the local legend, better to take a photo then to try and call a friend to brag.
No need to worry about being crammed on a single track trail with thousands of runners either. This race is capped at 150 TOTAL participants across both events. Not only does that mean you’ll have room to stretch your legs on the trail, but with less participants, it increases your chances of placing as a top finisher!
Did I mention the bling? Oh yeah…just in case you care about that sort of thing, each participant will receive a tech shirt and a MEDAL!!! Not that you were wondering or anything…
Head over to their website and get registered before all of the Bigfoot-seeking racers take the last spots! You’ve already tested yourself all year on your abilities to run those speedy 5k’s, as well as tested your mental fortitude in the distance races. Now is your chance to test your physical endurance while enjoying the tranquil environment of the great outdoors. And you never know, you may just spot Bigfoot while making amazing new friends on the trail.
