Community of Courage: Friends of Jordan 5k

The Jordan Memorial 5k Fun Run and Walk has changed their name and focus for the 2014 event.  This year the 2nd Annual Friends of Jordan 5k & Kids’ Run will honor Jordan Janeway and raise money for another local child with SCID (severe combined immunodeficiency). Jordan was born with SCID and passed away before his first birthday, but not before leaving his mark on this world. Around one in fifty thousand babies are born with SCID and more states are participating in genetic screenings, but there is still much to learn about this autoimmune disorder. This year, all of the proceeds will go to a local boy born with SCID, Dalton Reno, to help with medical expenses. Dalton has been through aggressive treatments, including a bone marrow transplant. Fortunately, Dalton now has 100% donor cells, but it came with excessive medical fees.  The proceeds will help with some of those medical bills.

The run will be Saturday, October 11th at Forest Grove High School (1401 Nichols Lane, Forest Grove).  The 400 meter kids’ run will start at 9:45AM followed with the 5k Run/Walk at 10:00AM. Pets are not allowed, but strollers, wheelchairs and bikes are all welcome. Every registered participant will receive a raffle ticket and additional tickets are available for one dollar. They will be raffling an ice cream sundae basket, family sports basket and two passes to the Portland Children’s Museum.

Make sure to register early, shirts are only guaranteed to people registered by September 11th. Registration is available online through October 9th and there will be day of registration for an additional five dollars.
