Race Preview (and discount code!): Rivalry Clash 5k & 10k – Ducks vs. Beavers

It's September, which can only mean one thing...Football Season! Here in the great state of Oregon, this typically means putting away our flashy neon running gear and donning nothing but orange and green until January. The Rivalry Clash 5k and 10k is coming to the Portland Expo center on Sunday, November 9, 2014 and will pit friends against friends, brothers against brothers, and Beavers against Ducks. It's like a huge tailgate, complete with a little running to get the competitive juices flowing. Move over beer pong, there's a new game in town!

The 10k will begin at 830a and the 5k at 9a. One really unique difference to this event is that each race will have 2 start areas – one for each team. Each “team” will line up together and run towards each other to “clash” before taking to the course. I am assuming there is some kind of safety precaution, but even if not, this sounds awesome! We may be Beavers and Ducks, but all will be gladiators at the start of this race.

The courses will follow the paved areas around the Expo and will meander through all the significant running areas in NW Portland – the Columbia River trail, PIR, and the Columbia Slough Trail. Check out the 5k and 10k course maps. For those of you who have not yet ran in this area – expect beaver tail flat.

Now it is pretty obvious that it is imperative to wear school colors. And from looking at pictures of years passed, costumes are a definite must! Now there are a vast number of us out there who will never win an individual race. But just like football, this race is a team sport and your finish time and place will matter!   “The top 20 finishers in both the 5K and 10K will score the number of points equal to their finish place. For example if you finish 1st place, you score one point, if you finish 20th place, you score 20 points.” The team with the lowest number of points will be the winner (of bragging rights).

After the race, there will be an after-party til noon to burn off that excess adrenaline. Bring your chairs and pop-up tents (no grills or beer though) for the whole experience.  Like any good tailgate, there will be beer garden & food at the Expo’s West Delta restaurant and patio. Vendors will be on-site, a DJ will be spinning tracks, and there will be giveaways. Even try your hand at great tailgate games like Cornhole & Ladder Ball.

100% of proceeds will be donated to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Amercia, and to the Benson Polytechnic, Grant, David Douglas, and Clackamas High School Key Clubs to be used towards programs and other charitable organizations such as UNICEF and March of Dimes.

Prices go up $10 on September 6, so register NOW! Use code RUNOREGON30 to get 30% off of a registration!!
