Seattle Rock ‘n’ Roll Race to Close Roads, Drivers Asked to Plan Ahead

  • Neighbors, drivers asked to plan ahead, note alternate routes
  • Race returns Saturday, June 21; brings visitors from 50 states, 21 countries
  • More than 18,000 participants expected for 6th annual race

Who: Residents and neighbors along the 26.2 and 13.1 mile race courses

Over 18,000 participants and thousands of spectators, friends and family

What: The 6th annual Rock ‘n’ Roll Seattle Marathon & ½ Marathon, a Seafair signature event. The

unique race combines running with miles of entertainment as live bands and cheer teams perform

each mile. The course will start and finish at downtown Seattle Center and conclude with a finish line

festival and post-race concert featuring Sir Mix-a-Lot and The Presidents of the United States of

When: Saturday, June 21at 7:00am; Most road closures will be in effect from 6:00am-3:30pm

Major road closures include:

  • 5th Ave N. from Mercer Street to Broad Street and from Broad St. to S. Dearborn St.
  • Broad Street from Taylor Avenue N to Denny Way
  • 2nd Avenue from James Street to Seneca Street
  • S. Dearborn Street Eastbound from 5th Avenue South to Rainier Avenue
*Westbound access lane on Dearborn from Rainer Avenue to 5th Avenue South
  • Rainier Avenue S. Southbound from Dearborn Street to S. Alaska Street
  • Lake Washington Boulevard S. from Juneau Street to 36th Avenue South
  • Lakeside Avenue S. from 36th Avenue S. to S. Dearborn Street
*Northbound access lane on Lakeside Ave. from I-90 overpass to Dearborn Street
  • Alaskan Way Viaduct (Hwy 99) Northbound from S. Hudson Street to Roy Street
Roads that are OPEN and suggested for access include:
  • Southbound Hwy 99
  • Alaskan Way
  • Martin Luther King Way S – North of Rainier Ave
Freeway Ramp Closures include:
  • I-5 southbound off ramp to Dearborn Street
  • I-5 northbound off-ramp and on-ramp to Dearborn Street
  • I-5 Express southbound off-ramp to Columbia Street – use Cherry Street
  • I-90 eastbound on-ramp from southbound Rainier Avenue S.
  • I-90 east and westbound off-ramp 3A to southbound Rainier Avenue S.
  • I-90 eastbound on-ramp from southbound Rainier Avenue S.
  • I-90 Express lanes closed during event. Regular traffic maintained.
