After participating in last year’s Hurricane Hood to Coast and this year’s Shamrock Run, I am beginning to think that I have bad luck when it comes to running in Oregon’s largest and most popular races. But even an unrelenting morning storm couldn’t keep me, or 30,000+ others from tackling the streets of Portland. We are all from the Pacific Northwest after all.
It hardly seems necessary to remind people about the 38th annual Shamrock Run, coming up in a few short weeks on Sunday, March 13. I mean, the race always features 35,000+ runners of all cities, demographics, and skill levels. It’s a truly uniting of Northwest running. And after 37 years of success, it’s important to remind runners of some details leading up to race day:
The Shamrock Run is arguably one of Portland’s biggest races. Each year it sells out its 35,000 entries distributed over four events: 5k walk, 5k run, 8k run, 15k run, and half marathon run. It’s more fun to run with friends, and getting a team together for this particular event has a couple of advantages.
Nobody needs to tell you about Portland’s Shamrock Run. This March staple is now in its 38th running and routinely sells out with upwards of 40,000 people. BUT what you may need to be reminded on is that on January 15, 2016, fees will increase! The half marathon is new to the scene and race fees increased, so registering early will save you some hard-earned cash. Also be reminded to run as a team to save yourself…
