Ending the 2026 Race Calendar with a Bang at the Thunder River 50k/25k

9 months after previewing the first event of Daybreak Racing‘s 2026 race calendar, we are back to wrap up their calendar with the upcoming Thunder River event. Set in the stunning in the Columbia River Gorge, the event offers 25K and 50K options.

What Makes This Course Special

Any race in the Columbia River Gorge is pretty special in my opinion. But fall in the Gorge is something different entirely. Add Halloween to the mix, and you know this is going to be a spooky good time.

The 25K is a point-to-point race, while the 50K follows a lollipop-style course. Both distances travel along the iconic Pacific Crest Trail and Gorge 400 Trail before cruising under the Bridge of the Gods and into the town of Cascade Locks.

Distances, Elevation & Aid

  • 50K: ~4,500 ft of gain/loss, 4 aid stations
  • 25K: ~2,300 ft of gain, 2 aid stations

Course maps, GPX files, schedules, and lodging recommendations are all available on the race website.

Race Day Experience

As with all Daybreak Racing events, Thunder River is cupless. Runners will need to carry their own bottle or cup, but aid stations will be well-stocked with water, electrolyte drinks, soda, and a familiar spread of gels, bars, fruit, chips, and candy.

There is a $15 shuttle fee for 25K runners who need a ride from the staging area at Marine Park to the Wyeth Trailhead starting line. If you plan to take the shuttle, be sure to purchase your shuttle bus pass during registration so race staff can determine how many buses to reserve.

Giving Back to the Community

This race directly supports Trailkeepers of Oregon, a volunteer-based organization actively involved in the rehabilitation, maintenance, planning, and construction of the trails used on the course, as well as trail stewardship throughout many regions of Oregon.

Why Run Oregon Loves Daybreak Racing

We’re consistently impressed with Daybreak Racing events. They’re well-organized, scenic, and runner-focused, with clearly marked courses, enthusiastic volunteers, and aid stations that often feel more like trail-side parties. And the finishes? Memorable—in the best way.

If Thunder River isn’t already on your calendar this year (and there are still spots available), it should be. And while you’re at it, keep an eye on Daybreak Racing’s full 2027 event lineup and get those race registrations in early—some fill up fast! Follow them on Facebook and Instagram to stay up to date.
