Getting my Fuel Together with the Hydrapak FuelKit

When it comes to fueling, I feel like I’ve gotten pretty dialed in these days. At least… when I’m running from home.

If I’m heading out for a medium-length run from my house—or even somewhere around town—I’m usually in good shape. But everything starts to unravel when I’m traveling, heading to a destination run, or planning a long run somewhere that’s not just a short drive away.

Suddenly I’m either realizing I didn’t pack enough nutrition, or I’m loading half my pantry into the car with giant tubs of drink mix, bags of snacks, random soft flasks, and trying to organize everything in the parking lot five minutes before the run starts.

First Impressions:

Personally, I think the Hydrapak FuelKit was made for people like me: runners who appreciate organization, like having a system, and want something that goes beyond simply remembering to bring water.

At its core, the FuelKit is pretty simple. It’s a transport case designed to keep all of your fueling essentials together. Sure, someone could argue that any random bag would accomplish the same thing. And maybe that’s partially true. But after forgetting scoops, leaving flasks at home, spilling drink mix in my trunk, or simply realizing I didn’t bring enough fuel, I’ve learned that having a dedicated system makes a bigger difference than I expected.

The case itself is well made. It’s lightweight, feels durable, and strikes a nice balance in size—large enough to carry everything you need without becoming bulky. The leak-resistant construction and sturdy zippers are nice, and there’s enough room to use all of the included accessories while still adding your own gear.

Everything Has a Place

Speaking of the included accessories, the FuelKit comes with Hydrapak’s Fuel Scoop, Fuel Funnel, two FuelPaks, and a spill tray, all packaged neatly inside the zippered carrying case. Everything is designed to work together for accurate measuring, clean pours, and leak-resistant transport.

There’s also extra space for soft flasks, larger bags of nutrition, and a zippered mesh pocket that’s perfect for wet gear or smaller accessories. I’ve also found myself using the included FuelPaks for more than drink mix. They’re equally handy for trail mix, nuts, or other snacks, making them a versatile addition to the kit.

More Than Just Storage

For me, the biggest benefit has simply been having a system. My brain is always going (a benefit but also definitely a drawback) has enough to keep track of on any given day, so removing one more thing from the mental checklist has been surprisingly refreshing.

The night before a run, I can pre-pack my fueling powder, toss in a couple of soft flasks, and know everything I need is already waiting for me when I pack up in the morning before heading to the trailhead or race start.

Why I’ll Keep Using It

And honestly, that’s what makes the FuelKit worthwhile. It’s not just about storing your nutrition—it’s about making the whole process easier. I can’t tell you the number of times (at this point it’s a little crazy) that I have packed things into my car and then realized I packed a hydration vest but left my flask full of water at home in the fridge. My running gear was just all over the place, and I didn’t check that off my list.

Having everything in one place means less scrambling, fewer forgotten items, and one less thing to think about before a run.
