Sun, Sweat, and Miles: Sky and Sol

Sunscreen is one of those things that most of us know we should be better about. Sitting at the beach, hanging by the pool, or working in the yard? Easy enough. But once a run gets involved, things change. Sweat, heat, and long hours outside make sunscreen feel more like a chore than part of the routine. Still, with melanoma risk being very real — especially for runners stacking long hours in the sun — finding something that actually works for endurance activities matters.

That’s where Sky and Sol enters the picture with their Sports Sunscreen. This product specifically targets athletes and outdoor enthusiasts who need something that can survive sweat, sun exposure, and movement without becoming a greasy mess halfway through a workout.

The premise is pretty interesting. Their sunscreen combines non-nano zinc oxide with grass-fed tallow — yes, the same type of fat some ultra runners use to help prevent chafing during long efforts. The result is a formula designed to stay put during hard training sessions while still being relatively comfortable on skin.

For runners, the biggest selling point may honestly be what it doesn’t do. It doesn’t drip into your eyes the second you start sweating, and because it’s mineral based, accidental eye contact doesn’t come with that chemical sunscreen burn that can derail a run in a hurry.

The texture also avoids that ultra-greasy hand feel that makes you immediately want to wash your palms after application. Personally, my hands are always sticky on runs due to fueling, so I don’t need anything else bothering me!

The Sports Sunscreen is rated SPF 50 and offers 80 minutes of water resistance, which is a pretty important number for anyone logging miles during peak sun hours. UV exposure can climb quickly for runners training midday, especially with pavement and water reflecting sunlight back upward.

At $33 for a 3 oz bottle, this definitely lands in the premium sunscreen category. That said, products specifically designed for endurance athletes tend to command a higher price point, and for runners who consistently train outside all summer long, investing in better sun protection may be easier to justify than dealing with the long-term consequences of repeated exposure.

Additionally, Sky and Sol have other products as well – stuff like Lip Jelly, which has a SPF25 protection. It’s not necessarily for running or activity specifically, but more for everyday wear and can take the place of things like lip masks (which I know little about, but my wife and kids swear by).  There is also Everything Cream which can be used everywhere where dry skin can get in the way.
