Often times, our workout schedules consist somewhere along the following:
- Run, Pick up Kids, Run
- Run, Go to Work, Run
- Run, Date Night, Run
All of these are completely viable and often necessary. But when summer comes around, Tracksmith’s versatile collection adds another to the mix:
- “Run Cannonball Run“.

Running is important and great, but let’s not lose sight of the fact that running is supposed to be fun. So, sometimes summer run-sploring can include circumnavigating a lake (Hagg Lake anyone) followed by a quick soak or paddleboard to cap the day off. That’s where this collection comes in.
We recently tried out a few items.
Run Cannonball Run Shorts
Men | Women
The Run Cannonball Run shorts strike the perfect balance between functionality and style. True to size, they offer a comfortable fit that suits various body types. This summer, red and green options add a touch of flair to your activewear collection. The red version includes some small suns to give it an apropos little pattern.
These shorts are unique in that they are slightly thicker and heavier than traditional running shorts, but this design choice makes sense since they are meant to bridge the gap between running shorts and swim trunks. They are perfect for casual runs, and you can effortlessly transition from a run to a refreshing dip in the water and continue walking without changing. The internal liner provides quick drying and excellent performance in both pools and natural water bodies like lakes, rivers, or sprinklers.
This versatility makes them a standout option for those who enjoy running near water or incorporating swimming into their routine. Women can also add a top to create the matching set.
- Body: 100% polyester
- Lining: 86% polyester, 14% spandex
Run Cannonball Run Linen Popover
Men | Women
I’m gonna go out on a limb and guess that most of us wouldn’t consider a long-sleeve button-up to be a running—or even running-adjacent—piece. I’m already a fan of collared running shirts, but a button-up? That’s still a pretty new concept. Then again, leave it to Tracksmith to take that leap.
Visually, it makes sense that the Northeast-based brand would be the one to pull this off. It has a classic, almost Cape Cod-inspired look that feels more at home on a waterfront patio than at the start of a group run. Thankfully, this isn’t some heavy-duty linen shirt masquerading as performance apparel. Instead, it’s made from a breathable Japanese performance linen and COOLMAX blend that keeps it surprisingly comfortable, even when the temperatures climb.
I’ve taken it out on a few runs now, and it’s proven more capable than I expected. Where I think it really shines, though, is after the run. It’s the kind of piece you can throw on when you’re heading straight from your workout to lunch, a brewery, or wine tasting without looking like you just finished logging miles. It bridges that gap between performance apparel and casual wear better than just about anything else I’ve worn.
- Fabric: 59% polyester, 28% linen, 13% COOLMAX
Run Cannonball Run Towel
It’s hard to really “review” a beach towel—we’re not exactly going to break it down. But if you’re looking to refresh your summer gear (or, like us, have a stack of towels that are falling apart from one too many beach trips), Tracksmith has put together a solid option.
The towel measures a generous 34 x 66 inches, giving you plenty of room to stretch out on the sand or dry off after a run/swim. Made from a thick, looped cotton blend, it has the substantial feel you want in a beach towel rather than the paper-thin options that seem to show up everywhere these days. And while it’s an obvious fit for the beach or pool, it’s equally at home tossed in your gym bag for a post-workout shower.
Like much of Tracksmith’s lineup, it leans toward understated style rather than loud graphics. The green and pink colorway is extremely pleasing.
- Fabric: 96% Cotton, 4% Polyester
