GORE Keeps you Warm and Dry with the CONCURVE WINDSTOPPER Insulated Jacket

Any outdoor adventurer who lives in a place where the wind and rain can be relentless knows what a savior Gore-Tex is. And where better to go for your gear than the source itself, GORE. It’s true that it’s not going to be the cheapest option on the rack, but you cannot put a price tag on staying warm and dry when you’re in the elements.

There’s no truer measurement of the phrase “you get what you pay for” than you do with GORE.

My favorite rain jacket ever is the Concurve Gore-Tex Jacket (you can read my review of that here) and it’s hanging in my closet right now, waiting for the rain to come. So I was super excited to get to review the CONCURVE WINDSTOPPER Insulated Jacket to save myself from those chilly days that are sure to show up any day now.

Looks

The CONCURVE WINDSTOPPER comes in 5 colors and I received mine in Lime Yellow which will show up nicely on a dreary day out on the roads. The jacket also has two different styles, one with a hood and one without. There’s also an insulated vest option if you prefer to keep your arms free.

I received the jacket without the hood, which is often my preference even on rainy days because I feel the hood limits my visability and ability to hear cars and I prefer to just wear a hat to keep the rain off my face. It’s great to have options.

Function & Construction

The new Windstopper material is the star of the show with this jacket, a fabric that offers both weather protection and breathability. The rain rolls right off the water-resistant shell and you’ll stay both warm and dry. This jacket is completely windproof with an ePE WINDSTOPPER liner and adaptive thermal insulation.

There are two zippered pockets to keep your belongings safe (one pocket even has a small pocket inside the pocket) and there are double zippers down the center so you can zip from the bottom up as well as the standard bottom to top. This insures that there is a lot of opportunity to let the air in when you’re hot or pull your body heat in close to your body.

The material on this jacket is tough to describe, and you just have to feel it to understand what you’re getting.  It has a “crinkle” to the material that will withstand the toughest of wind but it’s also soft like it’s been worn for years. It feels sort of like a blanket, but somehow it’s not thick and hot when you have it on.

It’s made of a durable, 2-layer laminate with PrimaLoft Active Evolve Insulation to keep you nice and toasty, but it’s also very lightweight to run in.

Fit

The women’s jacket is a slim fit and I requested mine in a size medium, which turned out to be perfect for my body. We are all built different with different style preferences, but I like my rain gear to fit relatively close to my body to keep the elements out. The women’s jacket swoops down a little in the front and in the back, which really helps keep your backside warm on cold days.

There are little stretchy pieces at the hips and around the wrists of this jacket so it will gently hug your body to keep the wind from creeping inside. The collar on the hoodless option is also nice and tall so the rain and wind won’t sneak through.

Overall/For Consideration

This jacket is sure to become the only option I need for days when it’s dry but windy, which happens quite a bit here in Oregon. There’s nothing worse than overheating on a run but finishing chilled to the bone is also less than ideal.

This jacket will ensure neither of those things will happen. It’s going to be a tried-and-true classic from a brand that’s already proven to be reliable and responsive to your every need in the Pacific Northwest.
