Functional Workout Wear: Planet Nusa

Community-Driven Activewear. This is essential to the Planet Nusa mission statement and it’s what drives the way they run their company. Founded in Denmark in 2018 by Mille & Kristine, it was important that everything was built on community.

From the initial design and collaboration with suppliers, customers, and everyone in between to the eventual product that gets pulled out of a drawer for the next workout, community is threaded through the foundation of it all. Planet Nusa is a direct-to-consumer brand, selling exclusively in three brick and mortar stores and online.

Looks

Planet Nusa sports bras also come in Blue Babe, Orange, Dark Grey, and Navy. The tights come in Blue Babe, Dark Grey, and Navy as well, but there are also Pink and Deep Burgundy options.

The Planet Nusa planet graphic is on the left thigh of the tights, and the logo is on the right calf and they are reflective, so you’ll be seen in the dark. Similarly, the planet is on the front of the bra, and the logo is on the back of the bra – also reflective.

Fit

I tend to fluctuate between a size medium and large, and I opted for medium in the tights. While the medium in the tights fit, I think I might have preferred them in large. I could get them on with a little shimmy dance, but they were snugger out of the bag than what I typically prefer.

The website says they are meant to be snug and that they will adapt with wear. However, you probably know how hard tights are to get back up if you need to stop at a porta-pottie on a run when you’re sweaty, so bear that in mind when deciding which size you want. My guess is they will get more comfortable over time as advised, but time will tell there.

The good news there is that when you’ve got them on, those suckers aren’t going anywhere for the duration of the workout.

I got the bra in a size large. The bra fit okay, but the band was a little tight. It wasn’t uncomfortable and it didn’t chafe, but as with the tights, I’d say sizing up if you’re between sizes wouldn’t be a horrible mistake.

Function and Construction

The tights are likely called “Power Tights” because they are meant to be compressive and hold everything in. There was a time where I didn’t like tight workout clothes, but those times are far in the distance now. If you’re looking to have everything tucked in and supported, these are the tights for you.

The tights do not have side pockets, but there is a rear pocket that can be found in the hemline on the low back. The pocket opening itself is narrow, but the pocket is very wide, so you could get your whole phone in there by turning it 90 degrees through the stretchy fabric. There is also an inner drawstring so you can make the leggings as tight as you need to.

The best news is that they are guaranteed to not be see-through. They will absolutely pass the “Squat Test” with flying colors. The high-waisted design means everything is held in place beautifully and you shouldn’t feel any jiggle when you’re moving around in them.

The Power Sports Bra are the ultimate in high impact support for the larger chested runner. The thick racerback straps are adjustable, and there are three eyelet closure options on the back clasp so you can get the size you need for your ribcage.

The Strap1 Power Sports Bra has the same hold, but I feel may be more appreciated by smaller chested runners as the security with the thin straps may not completely hold you as needed. It’s super cute though!

The best part of the bras may be that there are no removable cup pads! There may be some runners who like having removable cups, but I am not one of them. They shift around and fall out in the wash. The bras take that hassle away and there’s wonderful support that stays right where it needs to be every single time you take it out of the drawer.

Planet Nusa products are not terribly fancy looking or with lots of bells and whistles, but they are functional and do the job you need them to do for every workout. The pieces we tried are made with a runner in mind.
