The Asics Gel-Kayano 32: Good for Everyone

Asics was the first brand I found as a runner that I could depend on, and after all these years, they are still a staple in my running closet. The Gel-Kayano, (now at “32” in the lineup,) has been a tried-and-true long-distance trainer known for its stability for the long haul. Here’s how the Gel-Kayano 32 made it to the top of the shoe pile.

Looks

I received the Gel-Kayano in a women’s size 9 in the “blue fade/indigo fog” colorway. These are a very light lilac shade of purple .. almost blue, almost white. They are gorgeous. I get compliments on them whenever I wear them, and they honestly could be used as much for fashion as for function.

Function

As previously mentioned, the Gel-Kayano is the shoe for you if your goal is stability. These are a great daily trainer, and I found myself reaching for them straight out of the box when they were brand new and then often most mornings since. This says a lot for their comfort and adaptability. They are plush and cushy but never heavy – great for a soft ride.

If you tend to be an overpronator, (which is “runner speak” for a stride that rolls inward as you step,) these are a known great pick for that. They will guide your feet in the right direction.

Construction & Fit

The FF BLAST PLUS (a lighter upgrade from “just” FF BLAST) foam midsole is responsible for giving you the cloud-like ride you deserve. There’s also a higher midsole stack height but a reduction in weight from the last version. A reinforced tongue winds along the arch and the knit heel pull tab makes getting these suckers on and off a breeze too.

The engineered mesh upper reduces the need for extra overlays and is super light and breathable for those long runs. Finally, the 4D GUIDANCE STYSTEM is something these shoes are known for, as you’ll get a supportive ride as your miles increase and the load on your feet increases.

Overall/For Consideration

Bottom line, Asics never disappoints, and the Gel-Kayano 32 is a great “everyman” of the shoe world that will provide comfort for a 2 miler or a 20 miler.
