Something Different: The Under Armour Infinite Mega is Here!

Before diving into our full review of the Under Armour Infinite Mega, let’s start with the elephant in the room: the looks. Our team had mixed feelings about the design. Nikki wasn’t entirely sold, finding the style a bit off-putting, while Matt was fully on board, embracing the wild and unconventional aesthetic.

While the Under Armour Infinite Mega goes far beyond its bold and unique looks in terms of performance, we’d be remiss not to address its eye-catching design right off the bat. This shoe represents a collaboration between two running shoe stalwarts—Under Armour, an OG in athletic performance, and Speedland, a relative boomer making waves in the modern running scene.

Looks

Clearly, these aren’t your typical running shoes. I mean, there’s a literal cutout on the sides of the heels! That said, the color options let you go either way—like Nikki’s muted white-and-sand version for a more understated vibe or Matt’s bold black extravaganza for those who love to stand out. Either way, these shoes are guaranteed to make an impression.

With their thick soles and intricate design, they’ll turn heads whether you’re on a run or just out and about. Plus, thanks to the BOA technology (those two adjustment knobs on each shoe), traditional laces are a thing of the past. Because, let’s face it—laces are so 2024.

Specs:

  • Stack: 43mm/35mm
  • Offset: 8mm
  • Weight: 10.8 oz.

Function & Construction

The BOA literally dials you into the perfect fit without the need for shoelaces. One knob controls the pressure near your ankle and the other controls the fit around the midfoot. What this means is you can easily change up how tight your shoes fit at any point during your run with a simple twist. Since our feet swell the longer we are on them, you can see why this could be really convenient on those double digit mile days, especially if you feel like your shoes need some readjustment along the way.

The Mega has a lot of springy UA HOVR+ cushioning (28/23mm of it!) plus an additional 15mm/12mm of supercritical foam. But there’s also a nice, wide base which helps with stability. Though these shoes feel a bit heavier than some of the others in our closet, the cushy comfort makes for a smooth ride.

The upper is a nice, breathable mesh with good ventilation and the outsole is relatively lightweight as well.

The BOA PerformFit Wrap configuration, as you would guess, is the real star of the show for this shoe. The ability to customize the fit around your foot as well as to provide improved ankle stability is a feature unlike any other I’ve found in a running shoe. The micro-adjustability is very convenient.

Fit

We received the Infinite Mega in our normal sizes (these are unisex) to test fit and comfort. While some reviews suggested that the Infinite Mega runs large, we actually found the opposite to be true. Nikki noticed that after about 3 miles, the shoes began to feel a bit tight, particularly around the toes and forefoot.

Thankfully, the BOA knobs came to the rescue, allowing her to adjust and relieve the pressure on the go. Any smaller, and these would have been a no-go for her.

We have been wearing these for quite a few miles, but haven’t really taken them on super long runs yet – think 6-13 miles. They’re just so different from our typical ride.

That said, we’ve found the fit to be surprisingly cushy and not as heavy as we initially expected based on their appearance. They did feel a bit narrow on our wider toe boxes, but as we all know, what works for some doesn’t always work for everyone.

Overall

We’re warming up to the Under Armour Infinite Mega despite our original assessment. We all know you can’t judge a book by its cover, and the same holds true for running technology. As long as the shoes get the job done, we don’t really care about much else.
These shoes won’t work for everyone, but we do hope BOA technology continues to gain popularity, as it definitely brings something fresh and innovative to the table.
