Jacket Required: Oiselle’s Outerwear Takes Flight

We’re deep in the heart of winter running, folks, and if you’re in the Willamette Valley like me, you know what that means—rain. Lots and lots of rain. Sure, we’re lucky to skip out on endless snowstorms or frigid temps, but the constant drizzle makes good rain gear a must.

Oiselle recently sent over a couple of rain jackets to try out, and while they’re not the coziest option for those freezing days, they’re perfect for staying dry and layering up to keep the miles rolling.

Say Anything Jacket

If you were an early 2000s emo kid like me, the name “Say Anything” might immediately bring up memories of the band—and their iconic track Alive with the Glory of Love. (If you haven’t heard it, do yourself a favor and give it a listen). But today, we’re talking about a different kind of standout: Oiselle’s Say Anything Jacket. And honestly, this jacket could have its own anthem: “Alive with the Glory of Running.”

Here’s why: the Say Anything Jacket combines full waterproof protection with breathability, which is a tough balance to strike. It keeps the rain out without turning into a sauna inside. The interior is thoughtfully designed to keep the fabric from clinging to your skin, even when your body heat starts to build. This little detail makes a big difference when you’re logging miles in soggy weather.

Fit-wise, the jacket runs a little snug, so you might want to size up, especially if layering is in your plan. That said, the material has enough stretch that it doesn’t feel overly restrictive, even if you stick with your usual size. Add in the adjustable hood and hem, and you’ve got a jacket that can be customized for the perfect fit. And let’s not forget the 100% waterproof zippers and sealed seams—they seal the deal (literally) for all-weather running.

This jacket comes in three colors: black, blue light, and helluva yellow.

Reflective Vim Jacket

The Vim Jacket has been a staple in Oiselle’s lineup for years—and for good reason. It’s like the OG of lightweight running layers (at least in my mind). While it’s not fully waterproof, it’s water-resistant enough to handle light precipitation and keep you covered during those off-and-on showers. That said, don’t count on it for a downpour—it’s not built for torrential rain. But for those drizzly, unpredictable days, this breathable outer layer is a solid go-to.

What really makes the Vim Jacket stand out is how perfect it is for winter—and pretty much any time you’re running in the dark. With reflective trim on the back and chest, it adds an extra layer of visibility when rain and darkness combine, which is never a great mix for runners. Safety first, always.

It’s also incredibly lightweight, which is a lifesaver in our ever-changing Pacific Northwest weather. When the clouds part or the sun decides to make an appearance, you can easily roll the jacket up and stash it in your hand, pocket, or pack. Bonus points for the self-storage feature: it folds into its own front pocket and comes with an elastic strap, making it super easy to carry without any fuss.

If you’re looking for thoughtful, high-quality running gear, Oiselle has you covered. These jackets (and many other Oiselle pieces) make a great gift for yourself or the runner in your life—this holiday season and beyond.
