Talking about underwear can feel a bit out of the ordinary, yet it’s a wardrobe essential that almost everyone relies on every day. Unlike running shoes or other sports gear, which we might use in specific situations, underwear is a constant in our lives.
That’s part of why we keep this series going at Run Oregon—finding underwear that delivers comfort and quality is a true game-changer. Today, I’m excited to bring you our 18th installment in the series, courtesy of Manmade.

We won’t get too granular here because, generally speaking, we all have a sense of what we want in this department. But personally, I’ve moved on from the standard cotton varieties you might find in a department store. While they serve a purpose, they often wear out quickly. Instead, I’m drawn to underwear that acts more like activewear—durable, technically designed, and built to last.

After more than a decade of trying different brands, I’ve discovered options that have stood the test of time, providing long-lasting wear that’s ultimately better for my budget and kinder to the environment.
The Company:
Manmade was founded by four best friends who left their careers in finance to solve a universal issue: uncomfortable underwear. With no background in apparel design or manufacturing, they embarked on a 10-month journey to create a boxer brief like no other.

Their solution is a simple, yet functional design crafted with high-quality materials and priced fairly. The items are made from modal and feature the “Mansack” pouch to keep everything comfortably separate, they offer the perfect balance of freedom and support—customers describe the experience as like going commando, but with full support.
A pouch in men’s underwear is becoming more common in quality options, but it really only works if its comfortable and not cumbersome. The Mansack design does well in this category with the pouch adding to the comfort and provides natural support without restriction.

The soft Modal fabric feels smooth against the skin, making these boxer briefs versatile enough for everyday wear and comfortable enough for active use. They also work well as a base layer under unlined running shorts, offering reliable support and breathability that stays comfortable throughout the day.

The t-shirt is crafted with similar materials to Manmade’s boxer briefs but adds Pima Cotton to the Modal/Spandex construction. This adjustment gives it the feel of a classic casual t-shirt rather than an undershirt. Though it’s a relatively new product, Manmade aims for a shirt that retains its shape and resists fading over time. So far, after a few wears and washes, it appears to be holding up well.
