Vertx Hits the Spot: Baselayers That Get the Job Done

It’s official. After a handful of weeks of having some test gear on hand for fall and winter temperatures, and (thankfully) being greeted with some superb fall weather, we are now entering the point of no return. Wow, that’s ultimately a bummer, it means that we get to roll out Some cold weather items such as base layer options from a new company to us – Vertx.

The Vertx Wool Baselayer Collection is all about combining smart fabric tech for everyday comfort and performance. It blends the natural benefits of Merino wool—like odor resistance, breathability, and being itch-free—with the durability of Nylon enhanced by GM ReRapt™. Plus, 37.5® Technology helps regulate temperature and manage moisture, keeping you comfortable no matter the conditions. These baselayers dry 5x faster, resist wrinkles, and hold up over time, making them a reliable go-to for any adventure or daily wear.

All of the baselayers in this collection share a common design philosophy. The Ranger Green colorway isn’t flashy—quite the opposite—but that’s intentional, as these pieces prioritize function over fashion.

Each item is built with a high-performance blend of Merino wool and Nylon, enhanced by GM ReRapt. This combination provides all the natural benefits of Merino wool, such as odor resistance, breathability, and itch-free comfort, while the added Nylon ensures durability. The inclusion of 37.5 Technology, often seen in a variety of running gear, helps regulate temperature and manage moisture, keeping you dry and comfortable.

Functionally, these baselayers are designed to handle more than just one cold, wet season. They dry fast—five times faster than similar items, according to Vertx. They resist wrinkles, which has been tested and confirmed. Built for the long haul, they won’t need replacing after just one season, eliminating the need for constant donations or tossing them out.

While the pants are strictly intended as a baselayer, the hoodie and long-sleeve top offer more flexibility. Both can easily double as casual wear or standalone pieces, so you can layer if you like, but it’s not necessary.

The fit is slim but not compressive. Both the hoodie and the long sleeve provide warmth and a sense of security without feeling overly tight, making them comfortable enough to wear casually without standing out. The hoodie includes thumb straps to keep the sleeves long if preferred, while the hood sits snugly around the neck to ensure warmth. Even for someone with a longer torso, the length provides ample coverage.

The pants, as mentioned earlier, are strictly a baselayer piece. They fit tighter and the front flap fly makes them resemble underwear more than pants, so layering is the best option. The addition of side pockets on the legs, however, offers some utility, providing enough space for a phone or small items.
