Stay Cool, Stay Warm: The Rab Xenair Alpine Light Jacket’s Summer Sizzle

We understand that reviewing a jacket in the summertime might seem unexpected. While you’re likely accustomed to seeing posts about hydration items, tees, tank tops, and sunscreen, a jacket review might make you do a double take. However, trust us—the Rab Xenair Alpine Light Jacket is one jacket you’re going to want to check out.

First of all, I’d like to remind everyone that we don’t live in Florida, Southern California, or Texas. When summer finally arrives here, we’re not typically enduring an endless stretch of heat. If summer behaves normally, the air can become pleasantly crisp once the sun goes down.

Moreover, the Oregon coast and the Cascades are just a short drive away for most of us. We know that even during the height of summer, it can get a bit chilly in these areas. That’s why the Rab Xenair Alpine jacket is such a key piece of apparel, even in the summer.

I found it light enough to not overheat, but with enough insulation to be perfect to wear sip your coffee to in the mornings at Suttle Lake or at a campfire on the beach at Seaside. It might not be the jacket you need for running, but it’s an absolute winner for simply existing in the Pacific Northwest.

Construction:

The Xenair Alpine Light jacket is packed with PrimaLoft Gold Active+ insulation, making it lighter in hot spots to help keep your temperature just right. It’s super versatile—great as a top layer for summer hikes or a warm midlayer when it’s cooler. With its ultra-breathable lining, this jacket keeps your temperature in check like a champ, meaning you won’t have to constantly take it off and on.

Fit:

The fit strikes a perfect balance—not too slim and not too baggy. You can wear it as a standalone piece with a tee underneath, but if you want to add a light sweater, the standard sizing should accommodate that as well. The sleeves even fit nicely, even for someone with longer arms, and provide a little elasticity.

This full-zip jacket features plenty of pockets: two standard zipped pockets and a hidden interior pocket near the left chest (the latter of which the jacket can be folded into for packability. The hood fits snugly, so you can easily slip it under a bike helmet if you want to wear it while cycling.

Overall:

Although we are relatively new to Rab, we have been impressed with their products. Rooted in the outdoor sphere, Rab specializes more in hiking than running, and it shows. We have found their items to be essential for outdoor activities.

This jacket comes in five colors.
