When I told friends I was completing my first ultra-marathon, the first question was always the same: What’s an ultra-marathon? After explaining that it was a race longer than a marathon (aka more than 26.2 miles), the second question was consistent as well: Why would you want to do a thing like that??? And my answer was simple: To see if I could.

Tillamook Burn was that ultra-marathon for me. And while both times up and down that course was rough, it was also abso-freaking-lutely worth it.
Tillamook Burn has grown over the years to include three races across three days. And yes, you can do all three of them. Friday is the 20 miler, an out-and-back on Gales Creek Road. Then Saturday is the point-to-point 50 miles with every step along 9000 feet of climbing and 8400 feet of descent is a step closer to the finish line. Last up on Sunday is the 50K, an out-and-back crosses over a dozen streams along the Oregon Coast Range mountain divide from Reehers Camp to University Falls and back. Runners who sign up for the 100 Mile Stage Race complete all three events. As the race directors put it: “Brutal and epic!”

Race registration includes a fully marked race course, parking, chip timing, full service aid stations, professional medical support, post-race meal and beverages, custom finisher award, and professional photography. Plus volunteers will keep the campfire burning all day long to warm up before and celebrate after. All finishers earn a custom award and are entered into a raffle for sponsor swag.

Come spend a day or two or three in Tillamook State Forest.
