The Running:
Central Park:
- Central Park is like the holy grail for runners in NYC. The park’s got this awesome 10k loop that’s perfect for pounding the pavement, as well as a bunch of different offshoots to explore. There is greenery, serene ponds, and features like the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir. It’s like a nature break smack dab in the middle of the city. And don’t worry about crazy steep hills; the slopes are generally pretty chill even if there are a few rolling sections. Just watch out for all the other folks out and about – it gets busy, but that’s part of the charm!
The Experience:
Regardless of the reason for your visit to New York, we highly recommend starting your journey at the Edge Observation Deck for an unparalleled experience and a comprehensive understanding of this remarkable urban landscape. As the largest outdoor viewing platform in the entire Western Hemisphere, The Edge offers a breathtaking vantage point 100 floors above ground level, granting visitors a spectacular 360° panoramic view of Manhattan.
Certainly, like many viewing decks worldwide, The Edge’s experience is greatly influenced by weather conditions (though the Edge has Sky Assurance!). Fortunately, for visitors to The Edge, both indoor and outdoor viewing spaces are available. Featuring expansive glass windows, the indoor area offers sweeping vistas and a fully panoramic view of the surroundings.
Meanwhile, the outdoor Sky Deck, situated on the southeast corner, provides breathtaking perspectives of the city skyline and its architectural marvels. For the adventurous souls, there’s even a transparent section where you can walk if you’re brave enough to dare the heights.
Surprisingly, our visit to The Edge exceeded our expectations, as we found ourselves lingering longer than anticipated. While fundamentally, you’re merely observing the surrounding landscape, there’s an abundance of captivating sights to behold in every direction. With each glance, we discovered something new to marvel at, enriching our experience with each moment.
Furthermore, for those seeking to enhance their experience, there are additional add-ons available to further enrich your visit. One notable option is City Climb – the opportunity to climb the side of the building, securely harnessed, providing an unforgettable experience that undoubtedly leaves a lasting impression.
Situated within Hudson Yards, an emerging district boasting an array of new shops and restaurants, The Edge offers convenient access to the West Side Highway and its adjoining running path. We wholeheartedly endorse this experience as an ideal complement to your endeavors, whether it be conquering the New York Marathon or embarking on other planned runs. It’s a real inspiration, giving you this awesome view of just how much ground you’ll be exploring during your New York City adventures.
