In almost every hiking-related post, I consistently mention that I am a fair-weather hiker. Seeing some of my fellow bloggers tackling hikes with breathtaking vistas and luxurious landscapes often leaves me feeling envious. Unlike them, my trail and hiking experiences are somewhat limited.
However, I can confidently attest that having the right gear makes a significant difference in motivation and consistency when hitting the trails. For years, I struggled with subpar apparel, jackets, equipment, and even boots. Feeling ill-prepared made it easier for me to bail on plans rather than face potential challenges on the trail.
But gradually, I am expanding my gear collection, determined to eliminate any excuses that might hinder my outdoor adventures. Check out our review of the following items from the This Is Our Outdoors collection from Timberland.:
Boots:
The design of this boot strikes a perfect balance, seamlessly transitioning from rugged trails to casual outings. Its visual appeal lends itself well to pairing with jeans or pants, though its slightly bulkier silhouette might be noticeable in more laid-back settings. Despite its unmistakable identity as a hiking boot, the muted colors coupled with subtle technological features and embellishments give it a stylish edge.
What sets this boot apart is its versatility, emphasized by the inclusion of two lace options: classic black or a vibrant tigertail orange and black combination, the latter injecting a playful burst of color. With three distinct colorways available, there’s ample choice to suit individual preferences.
Our review pair, the Wheat Nubuck variant, boasts a creamy orange hue accented by black detailing and a contrasting grey midsole. Alternatively, there’s a darker brown option as well as an all-black iteration for those who prefer a more understated look. I kind of wish the tabs on the heel and tongue were in a more toned-down color like muted orange, black, or even the grey of the midsole. But hey, it’s just a small thing and really not a big deal at all.
In essence, this boot not only excels in performance on the trails but also effortlessly transitions into everyday wear, thanks to its thoughtful design and versatile color options. Whether navigating rocky terrain or strolling through urban streets, it’s a footwear choice that marries functionality with style.
The remarkable blend of technology and design in this boot is well married. In my experience, I’ve encountered numerous hiking options that boast impressive aesthetics but ultimately fail to provide the comfort and support necessary for treks. However, this particular boot successfully merges style with functionality.
Having put these boots through their paces on several medium-length hikes over the past month or so, I can attest to their performance. Not only do they catch the eye with their aesthetic appeal, but they also deliver on the promise of comfort and support. My feet have truly appreciated them – that’s for sure.
From the moment I lace them up to the end of the trail, they provide the perfect balance of cushioning, stability, and durability, ensuring a pleasant hiking experience from start to finish. It’s almost hard to believe these are hiking boots.
Constructed with premium Timberland Leather and durable CORDURA fabric, they boast a design that stands up to the rigors of the trail. Seam-sealed construction ensures maximum water repellency, keeping your feet dry even during prolonged exposure to wet conditions. We do live in Oregon obviously.
In addition to its waterproof qualities, they prioritizes comfort as well. Featuring Timberland’s TimberCush comfort system, these boots offer exceptional cushioning that minimizes fatigue and discomfort, enabling you to conquer challenging trails with ease. Despite their sturdy construction, these boots remain surprisingly lightweight (all things considered).
With a fit that runs slightly larger (you may want to consider a half size up, but it’s really close to true to size) and offers ample ankle support, especially when paired with thick socks.
Tights:

As a millennial, the Timberland brand evokes images of heavy brown boots from the 90’s (not to be confused with the R&B producer). And while those are still available in all sorts of shapes and sizes, Timberland has expanded into apparel like work wear, casual wear, and outdoor gear, as well as accessories like dog collars and handbags. For men, women, and kids, healthcare and hospitality, Timberland is worth a look for more than just their boots.
I have 149 million pairs of black running pants in all different lengths that I’ve amassed over the years and finally someone has nailed all the features: a pocket for my phone, a zippered pocket for my car key, a 7/8 length for coverage without ankle bulk, a non-see through fabric, and a wide waistband. (The jury is still out about drawstrings, but let the record show that these do not have one.)

These tights are a blend of recycled polyester (77%) and elastane (23%), so they are stretchy, yet strong, while maintaining their shape. They are also treated with a Durable Water Repellent and have abrasion resistance; true to brand, they are made to last.
My only complaint about these pants are the amount of seams. The tradeoff is the leg pockets for a phone or whatever else, but having two extra long seams in the front takes some getting used to and might not be so friendly for a long run if you’re prone to chafing after a few hours.
I love adding quality pieces to my outdoor gear rotation and know they are worth the price beyond paying for brand. Since we’re just entering springtime and there are still plenty of cold adventures to be had, I’m looking forward to getting in some miles and vert in these new tights from Timberland.
