In the early days of my running journey, lined shorts were a foreign concept to me. Despite trying various options with built-in briefs or shorts, I struggled to find the right fit and comfort. As a college baseball player, I gravitated towards unlined versions, often pairing them with my trusty compression-ish shorts underneath. However, as I immersed myself further into running, I gradually transitioned to preferring lined versions.
Nonetheless, I still appreciate the occasional use of unlined shorts, particularly during longer trail runs, cross-training sessions, and weightlifting sessions.
Recently we have been checking out some items from local company Pacterra.
The Company:
Pacterra’s items are inspired by the Pacific Northwest. They test their items across the diverse terrains that Oregon has, to ensure that functional comfort remains consistent whether in the city, forest, beach, river, or mountains.
They began with the basics—no need to sift through endless product lines or decipher lengthy descriptions. Their approach was straightforward: nail the essentials. For them, simplicity was key—create something that not only performs well but also feels great.
The Products:
We received a few items from their Middy Tech Collection.
Looks: Pacterra’s Middy compression shorts offer a sleek yet casual aesthetic. As expected with compression shorts, they maintain a straightforward style. Predominantly available in classic shades of grey, black, and white, they also feature a vibrant collection with pops of pink, blue, and yellow for those seeking a bit more flair. The addition of a pocket on the right leg and a modern Jacquard waistband not only enhances the visual appeal but also adds functionality to these versatile shorts.
Construction & Fit: Pacterra’s Middy shorts mean business. Crafted from their signature SwingLoft fabric, a blend of 86% Polyester / 14% Spandex, these shorts are built to keep up with your every move, whether you’re sweating it out in the gym or pounding the pavement on your daily run. What’s more, features like the discreet “invisible” hip pocket and the enlarged front gusset shape are designed to optimize functionality without compromising on comfort.
Let’s talk about fit. Pacterra’s Middy shorts are super soft and comfortable, yet strong enough to keep you tight and locked in. With a Jacquard waistband and increased back rise (a SUPER underrated construction point), I felt super secure and supported during every running step, squat, and stretch. And thanks to the precise seam placement and enlarged front gusset shape, chafing hasn’t neen an issue. It’s like they were tailor-made for my active lifestyle.
Overall:
Pacterra doesn’t stop at compression shorts; they’ve got you covered with a range of options including 3/4 and full-length bottoms, as well as more casual underwear construction. Whether you prefer the shorter length for a breezier feel or need the extra coverage for cooler weather, Pacterra ensures you have the perfect fit for any activity.
