With the flowers starting to bloom in my neighborhood, I have been finding myself thinking about the movie Elf. Specifically the part when Buddy is so excited about Santa coming to visit the kids in the department store. “Santa!!! I know him!” Buddy declares. And as I see all these budding signs of spring I keep shouting to anyone who will listen: “Spring!!! I know it!”
Part of my spring traditions includes the Spring Classic put on by the always wonderful Why Racing Events. The event includes multiple options for propelling yourself forward out of the gray winter season and into what’s next. Participants choose from a duathlon, half marathon, 10K, or 5K. For those who love a team experience, the duathlon can be completed as part of a relay of two or three participants. You can preview all the fun by watching the 2021 event video.
This year the event will be at Vancouver Lake Regional Park, with its lovely pancake flat pathways and beautiful open fields around. There is minimal foot or car traffic in the area so new duathlon participants get to feel safe on the run / ride / run. The park provides plenty of space for the after-party with music, vendors, food, and of course shiny medals. Participants in the shorter distances are encouraged to stick around to cheer on half marathon and duathlon finishers.
“Enough Hibernating! Wake up, Get out & Race at the Spring Classic!”
