Race Recap: Oregon Brewery Running Series at Migration Brewing

Oregon Brewery Running Series hosts the best 5Ks. At local breweries all over Oregon, they put events for runners and walkers with a 5K race. The 5Ks are all un-timed and are featured on an open course that start and end at the brewery. After running or walking, participants are handed some great swag and a token for an adult beverage. There is live music, raffles, and always tasty beverages.

I had the opportunity to attend the Migration Brewing 5K held at Migration Brewery at their North Portland location on July 3rd, 2021. This year as a father’s day gift, I bought all the special Dads in my life an entry into this race. My father in law, father and husband. We were all very excited to participate in this event together. The weather could not have been any better for an early July day. It was slightly overcast, and thankfully that crazy heat wave we had a week earlier had past! When I arrived at the venue to pick up my packet, I was amazed at how well everyone was socially distanced. This was my 3rd race post pandemic and while it is so great racing again, it can be a little nerve racking with all the new rules. After getting my race bib, I made my way to the decorating table. This is such a neat aspect that this series does, having participants decorate their own race bib.

Soon it was time to head to the starting line. Everyone gathered near the race shoot, and started stretching and warming up. What is great about these events is the sense of belonging and being there together. Everyone stretches together, everyone warms up and everyone is very friendly and supportive. Once all warmed up, we were off! The 5K course was relatively flat. There were a few hills for the first mile or so, then it was smooth sailing back to Migration Brewery. All turns were well marked with lovely volunteers directing the runners where to go. There were even volunteers with a water station.

Next thing I knew, I was crossing the finish line. It was a very fast 5K, thanks to the quick course. Once back at the brewery, I was handed some Swag, and a beer token. I also joined my family and made my way to get a delicious beverage. Migration Brewery has some amazing options including my favorite Patio Pale Ale.
